Inexpensive Craft Ideas For Children
Have you ever heard those familiar words, "I'm bored," be said by their daughter or son? Maybe children’s crafts are the answer. Supply craft materials to the kids and that bored reaction will be consigned to history. Here are some kids craft suggestions.
Essential materials for children’s crafts include paper, crayons, child friendly scissors and glue. Paper for kid crafts can include construction paper, plain typing paper, cardstock in a variety colors, and many other options. Junk mail and old magazines can make engaging art designs. Crayons are best for younger children, but the craft stores now have a wide choice of products, such as watercolor pencils, gel pens and washable dry-erase markers. The cost of kids craft supplies, but even on a low budget there are many options.
Other materials children can craft with include recycled junkand found objects. By recycled junk, I mean empty cereal boxes, toothpaste boxes, cardboard from packaging, plastic containers, and even tin cans. If you allow children to work with tin cans, however, you must be sure the open edge of the can doesn't have any sharp edges. Simply file these off or squeeze them flat with a pair of pliers.
Found objects include leaves, twigs, stones, and other natural objects a kid might find. Perhaps there is a sheep farm near your home. If so, wool scraps can occasionally be found stuck to the barbed wire fences. Any or all of these items may be used in kidscrafts.
One of the most fun and popular children’s crafts is collage making. Kids a collage. Use heavy paper for the background, and then let the creativity begin! For an additional challenge, a collage can be made around a theme like food, animals, or babies. Old magazines can be looked through for just the right pictures, which can be cut out and glued to the background. The older child might wish to cut out details from magazine picturesand rearrange them in fun and interesting ways. They might cut out interesting words and headlines and add them as well.
Younger children’s crafts can include collages built from pasted down pasta, beans, popsicle sticks, leaves, and many other materials. Don't forget about glitter, too. If the budget permits only a few children’s craft splurges, remember that children of all ages, particularly girls, really enjoy creating artwork that incorporates glitter.
But whether your children are boys or girls, young or older, suggest some children’s crafts the next time they say they are bored!
And what about a craft for mom? Face painting makes a great hobby and children just love getting their faces painted. Wouldn’t it be fun to send the children off to a party with a face painting design. And of course there is Halloween. Face painting and Halloween really go together.
